How to make bagels at home

Are you tired of eating the same old breakfast? Why not try making these delicious home-made bagels to switch things up a little? This breakfast originated in central Europe in the mid-17th century, and from there Jewish migrants took it to the United States. Bagels were then exported to the rest of the world, including here, and are now a favourite breakfast option in many households.

Besides being very tasty, some cultures consider these holey bread rolls to be a symbol of good luck. Some even believe that their ring shape represents the circle of life.

Want to know how to make these bagels yourself?

Bagels

This recipe is for a traditional bagel. If you like, you can top the bagels with sesame seeds, onion or raisins when you take them out of the boiling water and before you put them in the oven. When they are finished baking, you can eat them with marmalade, salmon and cream cheese, a poached egg, tuna salad or any other ingredient you fancy. Everyone has their favourite topping for bagels. What’s yours?
