Learn about the history of fried green tomatoes

For many of us looking at this recipe, the early 90s movie “Fried Green Tomatoes «Fried Green Tomatoes” or the novel by author Fannie Flag come to mind.

It’s true that this delicious lunch, perfect for sharing with friends or family, has come to represent more than just another fried American food.

Some historians say that this dish, which is very popular in the South, actually originated with Jewish immigrants in the Midwestern United States, and became popular in the South thanks to the film. Nowadays, it’s rare to find a restaurant in the South that doesn’t have fried green tomatoes on the menu.

Let’s take a look at how quick and easy this recipe is to make. See full recipe here: Fried green tomatoes

Fried green tomatoes

A variation of this recipe uses red tomatoes instead of green ones. If you decide to try this instead, make sure that you don’t use very ripe ones or else your fried tomatoes will turn out soggy.

This dish works well as an appetizer or as a last-minute meal for when unexpected guests show up at your door.

Fried green tomatoes can be eaten plain or with condiments such as spice olive oil or tartare sauce, depending on your individual preferences. How will you eat them?
