New trend alert: Gin and tonic with Olive Oils from Spain

1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 2:3. Do you know what we’re talking about? If you’re a fan of gin and tonic, you’ll likely know what we mean. Those numbers refer to the recommended ratios of gin and tonic when making a really good G&T.

If you think you know everything there is to know about this famous cocktail, think again. The world of gin and tonic changes so fast, it can be hard to keep up. New ingredients, methods and recipes appear every day. Gin and tonic has become a fashionable drink of choice in many countries such as the US, France and Spain, and the trend seems to have spread to others, as well.

That age-old classic, the G&T has been reborn. Adapt or die, so the saying goes, and the G&T has taken that advice to heart. While it has maintained its core partnership of gin and tonic, modern twists on the classic take the concept further than ever before. There are countless original and delicious recipes; some daring, others traditional, but always sophisticated.

Liquorice essence, coffee, red berries, citrus slices, blackberries, strawberries, pepper… the possibilities are endless. But there is one recipe that we want to share with you. You’ll never guess what the special ingredient is…it’s Olive Oil!

Yes, you heard that right. One recipe that is winning over more and more cocktail connoisseurs is a gin and tonic made with Olive Oil. What, you thought you could only use Olive Oil for cooking? Not at all! Gin and tonics made with Olive Oil not only have a unique flavour, but also have all the nutrients that this liquid gold contains. Bartenders say that this ingredient adds texture and makes the flavour of the cocktail more intense and longer-lasting, simply by coating the rim of the glass in it. It couldn’t be easier. The gin and tonic glass should be dipped in Olive Oil, then in sugar. Next, place the glass in the fridge to chill.

Some experts recommend eating two spoonfuls of Virgin Olive Oil a day, and this could be a fun way to help you achieve that.

Olive Oil gives the cocktail a boost in quality and adds a unique texture. And that’s not all: it also prolongs the G&T taste on your palate, something that is very difficult to achieve with other cocktails.

Just like many of you, we are big fans of gin and tonic. That’s why we wanted to share this trick with you. Have you had the chance to try a gin and tonic with Olive Oil? Do you know of any other interesting G&T recipes? What about other cocktails with Olive Oil? Let us know!
